Hugh Patrick McDermott

On Saturday,
June 16th 2005, in Wheatland, California. At his residence,
after a long
illness “Pat” peacefully departed this world for the next. Hugh
Patrick Mc Dermott, born
2 October 1930, in Manhattan, New York City first born son of Thomas and
Cathleen,
[nee’ Mulvey] Mc Dermott. Born to first generation Irish Americans, whose
families
struggled through the famine years in Aghacashel, Co. Leitrim,
Ireland, and immigrated
in 1890 where they first settled in
Beverley, Massachusetts. Pat grew up in
Brooklyn, Long Island and at one of the
largest orphanages in the US, Mount Loretto,
Mission of the Immaculate
Virgin, Staten Island, NY. He joined the
Amy Air Corps in
1947, serving in the Korean War and stateside during the Vietnam War. He was
most proud of his service on the ATLAS - F missiles, during the early 1960’s, at
Walker AFB, Roswell, New Mexico. While stationed in the UK, he met and married
his wife of 48 years, Barbara Katharine Smith, of Yelden, Bedfordshire. Who,
along
with their 3 children, Patrick Hugh Mc Dermott, of Wheatland; Carol L. Mc
Dermott,
of Arboga; Andrew M. Mc Dermott of Yuba City will greatly miss their beloved
father
and husband. Pat retired after 24 years of military service in 1971, and went on
to work
for BART, after 22 years as an electrician he retired from Bart in 1992. He
devoted
many immeasurable hours to Little League during his adult life and was the coach
of 1975 District 2 Northern California Big League Champions. He was also
instrumental in developing the Senior and Big Leagues for District Two.
He is
survived by his devoted wife Barbara Mc Dermott of Wheatland,
Son Patrick Mc Dermott , along with his children Tony & Trista of Washington
& Bryce Mc Dermott of Marysville
Daughter
Carol Forbush, her husband Dwite Forbush and children,
Jayson Bendure, wife Krista & son Jayden of Queens Creek, AZ.
Daniel
Bendure, wife TeAnna & children Justin & Grace,
and Julie Forbush, all of Arboga
Son Andy Mc
Dermott, his wife Jenny and sons Jacob & Alex, of Yuba City.
Also his
sister Mary Katherine Mc Donagh of Staten
Island; Brother & sister-in-law
Thomas & Marie Mc Dermott of New Jersey; Sister & brother-in-law,
Patricia & Battalion Chief Frank Caltabellotta, NYFD, Ret. of Bronx, New York
and sister Kathleen Tomasello of Belden, Long Island, NY, ; Brother-in-law
David Stringer & wife Julie of Higham Ferrers,
Northamptonshire, England,
along with numerous nieces and nephews
He was
proceeded in death by his parents, and two noteworthy individuals
who had an impact upon his life. The two brothers of his mother.
Hugh Patrick
Mulvey, 1902 – 1919 who died during WWI & for whom Pat is
named after; and Frank Thomas Mulvey 1904 – 1978, his beloved Uncle Frank
who served in WWI & WWII, from 1918 – 1943, along with Frank’s wife,
Alexandria Temoschenkova 1909 – 1981, whom he cared for deeply, and were like
parents to Pat & his siblings during their youth.
A Mass
Funeral will be held at St. Daniels Catholic Church in Wheatland.
Burial will
be at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
